In the spring of 2006, Filmmaker Burke Roberts enlisted the help of Jason “ Hawke” Hamilton, Sid Nicholson and Chris Draheim for an ambitious project—a film screening unit with a complex, kinetic sculpture as the centerpiece to hold the screen.
Burke and Hawke toiled for two months on the initial design before a final concept was agreed upon. What followed was months of blood, sweat, and more blood as, on a limited budget, the strengths and talent of the team were relentlessly tested.
Through a process both improvised and precise, the complexities involved in the final design and fabrication of this piece make it a pure collaborative between Burke and the three artisans.
After over four thousand man hours - the challenge ended in triumph.
THE ENGINE is complete in its form.
And sets sail for its function.
